What is XAUt?
XAUt puts allocated gold ownership on-chain. Each whole token corresponds to one fine troy ounce on a specific numbered bar meeting the London Bullion Market Association's Good Delivery standard, and a look-up page maps any holding address to the serial numbers, weight and purity of its bars. The gold belongs to the token holders, not to the issuer.
Tether launched the product in January 2020 on Ethereum, where the contract uses six decimals, so ownership can be sliced to a millionth of an ounce. It is the gold twin of the company's dollar token: the same issuance model, applied to bullion instead of cash.
How XAUt works
Only customers who pass the issuer's verification can mint or redeem directly, through the primary market at app.tether.to. The minimum purchase is 50 XAUt, redemptions are made in increments of whole bars, and a one-time verification fee of 150 USDT applies, credited back for use on redemption. Everyone else buys and sells XAUt on exchanges and on-chain venues.
When tokens change hands, the issuer reallocates which bars back which addresses so each address keeps mapping to specific gold. Supply rises when new metal is tokenized and falls when bars are redeemed, and the transparency page publishes the running total.
XAUt supply and tokenomics
There is no cap and no schedule: issuance follows demand for tokenized gold. The attestation as of 31 December 2025 reported 520,089.35 fine troy ounces held against 520,089.3 XAUt in circulation; by 31 March 2026 that had grown to 707,747.139 ounces backing 707,747.09 tokens, all vaulted in Switzerland. Each report is an independent accountant's opinion on a single date.
Who builds XAUt
The issuer is TG Commodities, S.A. de C.V., an El Salvador company in the Tether group that took over from the original British Virgin Islands entity in January 2025. It operates as a registered stablecoin issuer and digital asset service provider under El Salvador's Digital Asset Issuance Law, and the group publishes the quarterly reserve attestations on the Tether Gold site.
How XAUt is governed
There is no token-holder governance and no DAO. The issuer sets the terms of purchase, redemption, fees and custody arrangements, and can change them; what holders own is the gold claim those terms define. On-chain, XAUt behaves as a plain ERC-20.
XAUt risks and considerations
XAUt is a claim serviced by one company. Redemption requires verification, a Swiss delivery arrangement and whole-bar increments, so small holders realistically exit through the market rather than the vault. Attestations are quarterly snapshots rather than continuous audits, and holders rely on the issuer's custody arrangements staying sound.
The token's market price can drift from the spot metal when liquidity is thin, and versions of Tether Gold on other networks are separate deployments. On Ethereum the contract is 0x68749665ff8d2d112fa859aa293f07a622782f38; match it before you trade.

Questions? Answers.
What does one XAUt token represent?
Ownership of one fine troy ounce of physical gold on a specific London Good Delivery bar stored in a Swiss vault, held by a custodian on behalf of token holders. The issuer's look-up page shows the bar serial numbers behind any address holding XAUt.
Can I redeem XAUt for physical gold?
Yes, with conditions. Redemption runs through the issuer's primary market, requires completing verification, and is executed in increments of whole gold bars, which weigh roughly 400 ounces each. Holders below that size sell on the market instead; the metal claim is what anchors the price.
How is XAUt's backing verified?
TG Commodities publishes quarterly attestation reports prepared by an independent accountant. The report for 31 March 2026 counted 707,747.139 fine troy ounces of vaulted gold against 707,747.09 tokens in circulation, and the bars are enumerated with serial numbers, weights and purity.
Is XAUt the same as PAXG?
No. Both tokenize allocated gold, but they are competing products from different issuers with different custody, fee and redemption terms. XAUt is issued by TG Commodities in the Tether group; PAXG is issued by Paxos. The two are not interchangeable and trade separately.
What is XAUt used for?
XAUt is used for trading, portfolio rotation, or ecosystem exposure in DeFi. It ranks #8 by 24-hour trading volume among the tokens tracked on 1inch. The role of the token can vary by network, liquidity conditions, and the route you choose, so it helps to review the quote before you confirm a swap.
Which networks support XAUt on 1inch?
The 1inch token catalog lists XAUt on 2 networks, including Ethereum. Support can differ by chain and current liquidity conditions, so check the token selector and live quote in the Swap flow before you trade.
How does 1inch find the best XAUt rate?
1inch compares supported routes and optimizes execution across available liquidity sources on Ethereum, splitting your order across pools when that improves the XAUt price.
How do I protect my XAUt trades from MEV?
1inch adds MEV protection in supported intent-based flows to reduce exposure to front-running and sandwich attacks, which matters most on volatile or thin XAUt routes.
